Yesterday we learned that for data to be MEANINGFUL, it must be organized, neat, labeled, and useful to someone. Let's watch this video for ideas and review.
Now let's practice together.
This is data from a made up school to help us practice together. Some of you will be working with me, some with a small group of 3 and some with a partner. Your job is to listen and follow directions quickly and quietly.

1.1
What is data?
* Pieces of Information
How do we collect data?
*Counting something
*Measuring something
*Doing experiments
Who uses data?
*Everyone!
*Mathematicians and Scientists and others collect data. They have to think hard about what data will give them the information they want.
Why do we need organization of data?
*Data can be meaningless if it is not organized correctly.
Today we are going to look at data about where we like to eat.
1.2
Developing classifications to organize categorical data
Organizing categorical data in different ways to answer different questions
Categorical Data: data that is put into categories; usually uses words and not numerals.
